The survey aims to assess public awareness and prioritization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Kazakhstan at the country, regional, and individual levels.
Since 2015, Kazakhstan has made significant progress toward the SDGs, laying a strong legislative foundation by integrating them into its state planning system. This progress is reflected in Kazakhstan's 66th position out of 166 counties in the SDG Index, scoring 71.6 out of 100 points according to the Sustainable Development Report 2023. The prioritization of SDGs in public opinion has been a key task of the national government, leading to the issuing of two Voluntary National Reviews (VNR) in 2019 and 2022. However, comprehensive assessments that include and capture granular data at the individual and regional levels were missing in Kazakhstan.
The survey was conducted by the Galym Project, a non-profit public fund affiliated with Suleiman Demirel University in Almaty. The data was gathered through a countrywide online questionnaire between April 1 and May 30, 2024. It includes the opinions of 3,295 respondents from 17 regions and the three major cities of Astana, Almaty, and Shymkent.
