During October-November 2023, there was a series of 4 guest lectures, titled “Building Environmental Careers in the Corporate World” and featuring experts in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) field with experience in major companies, including national ones and the Big4. The aim was to let students learn more about the sustainability career opportunities in large corporations. Most of the time, students associate corporate jobs with degrees in Finance or Economics or Math, and many might tend to associate environmental causes with activism, non-governmental, and non-profit organizations. But to widen students’ world outlook, it becomes important to hold guest lectures with professionals, who have background in life sciences, technical majors, or other social sciences and humanities, but pursued a career they are fond of in corporations.
We have had amazing guest speakers from KPMG Caucasus & Central Asia, PwC Eurasia, ex-EY Kazakhstan, and a guest speaker with a decade of experience in national companies. They shared about their work, about the process of how they chose their current career path, and shared advice on what to do during students years. We have gathered around 30 students, who also asked questions, and it created a good casual atmosphere for conversing. It was insightful and motivating for students to listen to speakers, and each session lasted for almost two hours.
