MAY 13: 2nd SDSN Kazakhstan Conference 2024: Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across sectors in Central Asia
The SDSN Kazakhstan hosted its 2nd Conference on "Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across sectors in Central Asia" at Nazarbayev University on May 13-14, 2024. The conference brought together government officials, the academic community, international organizations, and civil society to discuss the latest developments and challenges in SDG localization and implementation both at national and sub-national levels across a variety of sectors such as education, public health, energy, public administration, environmental protection agencies, non-governmental sector, and others.
The conference contained 4 panel sessions on:
Forging partnerships: research directions for EU-Kazakhstan sustainable development cooperation;
SDG monitoring implementation, progress and challenges;
Sustainability in higher education;
Sustainable development in Central Asia.
The event was attended by more than 100 participants in hybrid format including: Government agencies including Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Science Fund; SDSN Kazakhstan Network members and partners in Kazakhstan – Suleyman Demirel University, Almaty Management University, Energo University, and Maqsut Narikbayev University; Universities from Central Asia including University of Central Asia (UCA) in Kyrgyz Republic, University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) in Uzbekistan, and International University of Kyrgyzstan;
Additionally, at the conference Prof. Tristan McCowan’s from UCL delivered a keynote speech where he shared thought-provoking and deeply impactful insights into the pivotal role of higher education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The feedback from the conference attendees has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have expressed how the presentations has broadened their perspectives and equipped them with ideas to implement within their own institutions.
