On February 12, the Economic Research Institute (ERI) organized a seminar to discuss the draft of Kazakhstan's Voluntary National Review 2025 (VNR-2025), with the participation of government officials, experts, business representatives, and civil society members.
During the opening of the event, Olga Perepechina, Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasized the country’s consistent progress toward sustainable development. She highlighted that the systematic preparation of the Voluntary National Review reflects Kazakhstan's commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
It is worth noting that the current VNR includes a recommendation from the United Nations for Kazakhstan to conduct a more detailed analysis of five key SDGs: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The process of identifying priority SDGs for Kazakhstan will involve broad consultations with diverse stakeholders and regional populations. Additionally, the drafting process will adhere to the principle of “Leaving No One Behind,” ensuring the inclusion of all demographic segments, including youth.
SDSN Kazakhstan representatives Serik Orazgaliyev and Malika Tazhmuratova participated in the workshop. SDSN plans to attend further working group meetings on the discussions of the VNR which will be finalized in July 2025.
